How can policymakers better understand the needs of the professionals and businesses responsible for keeping New York’s facilities clean, healthy, and operational?
It starts with direct, ongoing conversation.
Earlier this month, Cleaning Coalition of America members gathered in New York City for a day of engagement with local and state government officials and workforce leaders. These meetings gave members an opportunity to share firsthand insight into the issues affecting commercial cleaning professionals and employers, learn more about government resources and emerging policies, and build relationships that support continued collaboration.
“Commercial cleaning professionals play an essential role in keeping New York’s workplaces running,” said Suzanne Klatt, executive director of CCA. “We’re always glad to connect directly with government and workforce leaders, share what our industry is experiencing, and explore practical ways we can work together to support workers and employers.”
Throughout the day, CCA members explored how public policy, workforce resources, and cross-sector partnerships can support professional cleaners and their employers. Conversations with New York City Council members and staff helped raise awareness of the commercial cleaning industry’s contributions to workplaces and communities, while meetings with state leaders created opportunities to discuss available workforce programs, pending labor legislation, and the policy outlook heading into 2027.
Members also considered how immigration law developments may affect workers and employers, from employment authorization and compliance to workforce availability and long-term planning. These interconnected issues underscore the value of bringing industry experience into conversations with government and workforce leaders shaping New York’s employment landscape.
CCA is grateful for the thoughtful exchange of ideas and looks forward to continuing these relationships. By keeping the conversation going, CCA can help identify practical resources and policy approaches that support a strong workforce and the essential services it provides.
